Mark Volmer appointed as new head of BASF Construction Chemicals Asia Pacific 

Shanghai , CHINA, June 30, 2008 – Effective July 1, 2008, Mark Volmer will become the head of BASF Construction Chemicals Asia Pacific Business Unit who is based in Shanghai.

In this position, Volmer will assume the responsibility for setting the regional direction to further expand the business and better serve the markets in Asia Pacific. The region is expected to be a key contributor of the sustainable growth in the global BASF’s Construction Chemicals business.

The regional business unit Construction Chemicals Asia Pacific serves various markets across Japan, Greater China, Pacific (Australia / New Zealand), South Asia, ASEAN, and Korea. The business unit is the market leader in the construction chemicals market in Asia Pacific with more than 50 production sites and approximately 1,500 employees in the region. As a customized solution provider, it supplies a full range of construction chemicals from admixture systems for concrete, cement additives for performance flooring products, building systems to its customers in the construction industry.

Volmer was born in the Netherlands in 1964 and holds degrees in physical chemistry and business administration. He joined BASF in 1990 and, during his professional career, he worked for various disciplines from marketing, sales to new business development for BASF’s Intermediates Division in Germany and Hong Kong.

As of March 2000, Volmer was promoted to Procurement Director Asia Pacific based in Hong Kong before assuming his current responsibilities in 2005 as Group Vice President, responsible for the Business Unit Acids & Specialty Intermediates Europe, based in Germany.
